Opening this May, Golden Skybridge is a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience. Two suspension bridges traverse a massive canyon, offering jaw-dropping views and a unique way to experience the thrill of the Rocky and Purcell mountain ranges. Here’s everything you need to know about Golden’s newest must-visit destination.
1. The views are epic.
As Canada’s highest suspension bridge the views are completely unique. Two bridges cross an expansive canyon with a towering waterfall—the first is 130 metres high and 150 metres long, while bridge two is 80 metres high and 140 metres long. From these bridges, guests can fully experience the rushing rivers, pounding water from the falls, craggy peaks and the endless forest. On either side of the bridges, there are viewing platforms that offer killer views of the Rocky and Purcell mountains. And, for a truly Instagrammable moment, there’s a photo swing that overlooks the vast Columbia Valley below.
2. The location is ideal.
Located just off the Trans-Canada Highway and minutes from Golden townsite, Golden Skybridge is a must-stop destination if you are travelling between B.C. and Alberta. This attraction is surrounded by six national parks, so there’s no shortage of adventure and views in the area. Or, if you’re staying in Banff, it’s just a 90-minute drive through the mountains.
3. It’s perfect for the whole family.
There are more than three kilometres of nature trails around both bridges that lead to multiple viewing platforms and these trails are accessible and easy for all fitness levels. Beyond the bridges and trails there’s a food truck and a kids’ park with a mini bridge and treehouse to keep everyone entertained.
4. There are experiences for the thrill-seekers.
For those with a true sense of adventure, Golden Skybridge offers two heart-pumping activities. The first is a zipline that sends adventurers zooming across the canyon. The other is a canyon bungee swing that allows you the thrill of free-falling into the canyon before swinging in the gorge below the waterfall. (Both of these activities open summer 2021.)
