Stride boldly across a glass-floored lookout for an adventure rich in scenery and wonder

Step out on a cliff-edge walkway where giant glaciers perch above you and the spectacular Sunwapta Valley spreads out below. The Columbia Icefield Skywalk experience features waterfalls, wildlife, fossils and more on an exciting 1-kilometre walkway that leads to a platform where glass is all that separates you from a 918-foot (280 m) drop. The walk is presented in an interpretive storytelling format that will connect you to the natural world in a deep and meaningful way.

Overlooking the mighty Athabasca Glacier rests Altitude Restaurant, a truly unique dining experience located directly off the world-famous Icefield Parkway. Altitude’s décor brings the outdoors in. Everything from the crevasse-blue light fixtures to the rock-like surfaces and icy-blue textiles mirrors the glacial history that it overlooks. Altitude’s menu features locally-sourced ingredients such as a rack of lamb from Sungold Farms. Altitude is the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring.

BEAT THE CROWDS

The best time to visit the Columbia Icefield is before 1 PM or after 3 PM. Beat the crowds, increase your chance of wildlife sightings and take advantage of enhanced experiences like a guided morning tour on the Skywalk.

ALTITUDE AND CHALET RESTAURANTS

Two great dining options! Chalet serves casual and fresh food from a grab-and-go menu. Altitude takes the experience of dining to new heights; with exceptional glacier views and locally-sourced Canadian cuisine.

MORNINGS ARE SPECIAL

Join our interpretive guides for a small-group tour and take your Skywalk experience to a deeper level. Discover how the environment of the Canadian Rockies is one of adaptation. No extra cost. Tours are first-come, first-served. 

ACCESSIBILITY AT ITS CORE

The Columbia Icefield Skywalk is a sidewalk-type of access that can easily accommodate wheelchairs, walkers and strollers. Contact us 24 hours in advance to secure a wheelchair-supported visit.
