Pursuit champions sustainability through Promise to Place, which builds community, fosters inclusivity and reduces the environmental impact of our operations. The GreenStep EcoFund and Pursuit Community Fund are key components to this commitment. Keep reading to learn more about each fund and its impact.
GreenStep Solutions Inc., a certified B Corporation, is the Canadian leader in sustainable tourism, and Pursuit partnered with the organization in May 2023. The partnership supports us in reducing energy consumption, waste and water, and lowering our overall carbon footprint. Together with GreenStep, we introduced the Eco-Fee Program, where guests partner with us by contributing a small amount into an EcoFund. Funds collected are used to invest in large scale sustainability projects that reduce our carbon footprint, such as LED upgrades across all properties in Banff, Jasper, Golden and Waterton. HVAC system upgrades will also take place in all hotel properties.
Pursuit Community Fund is a Banff Jasper Collection initiative that supports local communities in Canmore, Banff and Jasper in Alberta and Golden, British Columbia through in-kind and monetary funding. The fund contains four pillars — Community Vibrancy and Social Events, Community Services and Support, Affordable Living and Environment and Sustainability — and consists of monies raised through events like Locals’ Day, community dinners, revenue from our businesses and retail bag purchases. Banff Jasper Collection has provided monetary support to local communities for many years, but Pursuit Community Fund marks the first time an official name has been tied to these efforts.
More than $215,000 was contributed to our communities in 2023, including $30,000 to the Jasper Recreation Centre, $26,657 to Bow Valley Pride Network and more than $120,000 in in-kind donations. Businesses may apply for funding and the PCF committee meets monthly to review submissions.
